FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 World Cup will receive specially designed championship rings, marking the first time such an award has been presented in the history of a FIFA competition.
The initiative brings one of the most recognisable traditions in North American sport to international football. Championship rings are commonly awarded to title-winning teams in major American leagues, including the National Football League and the National Basketball Association.
Alongside the World Cup trophy and gold medals, 30 bespoke rings will be reserved for members of the victorious team. Each ring will form part of a strictly limited collection of 2,026 individually numbered pieces, created as a direct tribute to the 2026 tournament.
The remaining 1,996 rings will be offered to supporters worldwide as officially licensed products, giving football fans an opportunity to own a distinctive souvenir connected to one of the world’s most important sporting events. The figure 1,996 therefore represents the number remaining after the 30 champions’ rings are deducted from the total collection of 2,026 pieces.
According to FIFA, one side of each ring will display the iconic World Cup trophy, while the other will be customised to reflect the identity of the winning national team. Every ring will be individually numbered, made to fit its owner and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Immediately after the final, temporary rings will be presented to the captain and head coach of the newly crowned world champions. The 30 permanent rings will then be personalised and officially delivered at a later date.
The new award reflects FIFA’s efforts to strengthen the commercial identity of the World Cup and expand the experience offered to both players and supporters.
It also underlines the influence of North American sporting culture on the 2026 edition, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
By introducing championship rings, FIFA is creating a personal and lasting symbol of victory. While the trophy remains the ultimate collective prize, the rings will allow members of the winning team to carry an individual reminder of their historic achievement.
