Algerian Prime Minister Chairs Key Meeting for 2026-2027 Social and School Year Preparations
In line with the directives of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb presided over a videoconference meeting on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to ensure robust preparations for the 2026-2027 social and school year. The session, which included regional governors and several ministers, specifically the Minister of Interior, Local Assemblies, and Transport, the Minister of National Education, and the Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, reviewed the general situation across various regions and outlined a detailed action plan to guarantee optimal provision for the year ahead.
A primary focus of the meeting centered on economic stability and consumer protection. The Prime Minister underscored the imperative to maintain a regular and sufficient supply of essential consumer goods within the national market. Furthermore, directives were issued to guarantee the timely availability of school supplies at reasonable prices nationwide, a measure intended to prevent market speculation and ensure accessibility for all students.
Regarding educational infrastructure and services, specific instructions were given to governors. They are tasked with personally overseeing the timely completion and equipping of all planned pedagogical facilities, along with the rehabilitation and maintenance of existing structures. Ensuring the readiness of school and university transport networks and the distribution of textbooks in adequate quantities and on schedule were also highlighted as crucial priorities to facilitate a smooth academic commencement.
A significant humanitarian and educational initiative also emerged from the session, targeting children with special needs. The Prime Minister ordered a comprehensive assessment of the requirements for schooling this category of children and the launch of a nationwide early screening campaign for autism across all educational institutions. This effort aims to identify cases requiring specialized health and educational support, alongside the establishment of new specialized classes across all educational cycles to foster their integration.
