Chinese Ambassador Hails Annaba Port Infrastructure Contract

The Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, recently praised the signing of the contract for the Annaba port infrastructure development, which is a key component of the second phase of Algeria's integrated phosphate project. Ambassador Guangli highlighted this agreement as a clear demonstration of the enduring strength of the strategic partnership between Algeria and China.

Beyond this specific infrastructure initiative, bilateral cooperation between the two nations has broadened across various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, energy, mining resources, and agriculture. Chinese investments in Algeria have reached approximately $7 billion, while the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries surpassed $15 billion in 2025. Currently, Chinese companies are engaged in approximately 1,200 projects within the Algerian market.

Ambassador Guangli further observed that Algeria is actively working to diversify its economy, develop its industrial and mining sectors, advance renewable energies, and strengthen value chains. He presented the integrated phosphate project, which includes the Annaba port development, as a realization of this comprehensive development vision. This project holds significant potential for fostering economic growth, generating employment opportunities, and contributing to a reduction in Algeria's reliance on hydrocarbons. The Annaba port itself is recognized for its strategic importance in linking production, transport, and export activities.
