Sidi Moussa Hosts U21 Squad for Taranto Games

The Algerian national Under-21 football team initiated its preparatory training camp on Thursday evening at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa. This camp is a crucial step for the team's participation in the football competitions of the Mediterranean Games, scheduled to take place in Taranto, Italy, from August 21 to September 3. The preparatory phase will continue until August 19, with the squad operating under the guidance of national Under-20 coach Brahim Hemdani, who will lead the Under-21 team for this tournament, assisted by Hussein Al-Arfi.

The Algerian Football Federation announced that the 18-player squad is preparing for the Mediterranean event. The draw for the football tournament placed Algeria in Group B, where they will face host nation Italy, Kosovo, and Albania. The young Fennecs are set to begin their campaign against Kosovo on August 22, followed by a match against Italy on August 24, and concluding the group stage against Albania on August 26. The competition format dictates that the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-final stage.

For Coach Hemdani, this assignment marks his first significant responsibility since his appointment to lead the national Under-20 team, providing an immediate opportunity to assess the country's emerging talent. His leadership of the Under-21 side aligns with a broader initiative by the Algerian Football Federation to integrate former international players into youth team coaching roles, aiming to develop players who can gradually progress into the senior national set-up.
