Minister Baddari, Melikechi Plan Academic Mobility

Kamel Baddari, Algeria's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, recently met in Algiers with physicist Noureddine Melikechi, a founding member and vice-coordinator of the High Council of the National Scientific Community Abroad, who also works at the US space agency NASA. Their discussion focused on enhancing the local transfer of technology in strategic national sectors and leveraging modern expertise to support innovation and develop national competencies. The meeting also addressed academic mobility between Algeria and the United States.

A key outcome of the discussion was the presentation of an action plan for academic mobility, designed for teachers and students. This plan aims to facilitate exchanges between the Chahid Abdelhafid-Ihaddaden Scientific and Technological Hub Schools in Sidi Abdellah, Algiers, and the University of Massachusetts (UMass) in the United States. This initiative is intended to broaden academic opportunities for Algerian students and professors, fostering collaboration and strengthening scientific connections between the two nations.

This recent engagement is part of a broader, actively growing scientific cooperation between Algeria and the United States, which includes various research conventions, mobility programs, and institutional agreements across technological, health, and innovation fields. Examples of this collaboration include a partnership between the Algerian private university, the Higher Institute of Science and Technology (Hist), and the University of Central Missouri, enabling Algerian students to study in the US, as well as a cooperation agreement between Algeria's University of Health Sciences and the American Johns Hopkins University. These efforts align with Algeria's national strategy to diversify its economy and establish itself as a regional hub for innovation.
