Enagas Data Shows Algeria Second-Largest Gas Provider to Spain

Algeria maintained its status as the second-largest natural gas supplier to Spain during September 2026, according to data from the Spanish company Enagas. Algerian supplies accounted for 29.3% of Spain's total imports for the month. The United States held the top position, providing 48.2% of Spain's gas imports.
Spanish newspaper El Periódico de la Energía reported that Algeria delivered approximately 8.17 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas to the Spanish market in September. During this period, Spain received gas shipments from only five countries, notably marking the absence of Russian supplies for the first time since 2021. Algerian shipments in September consisted solely of natural gas, with no liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries recorded from Algeria for the month, contrasting with 2.9 TWh of Algerian LNG exported to Spain in September 2025.
The United States supplied 13.46 TWh of LNG, solidifying its leading role. Following Algeria, Nigeria ranked third with 3.05 TWh, while Portugal and France contributed 2.25 TWh and 0.934 TWh, respectively. Spain's total natural gas and LNG imports for September reached 27.93 TWh, representing a 1.32% increase year-on-year. LNG constituted 59.1% of these imports, amounting to 16.51 TWh, while natural gas accounted for 11.42 TWh.
