Treated Wastewater Exploitation Set for 60% Target

The Algerian government aims to increase the exploitation rate of produced treated wastewater to 60%. This initiative is a core component of a national strategy designed to enhance both water and food security across the country, with a particular focus on bolstering resources for the agricultural sector.
During a recent meeting chaired by Prime Minister Seifi Gharib, the government reviewed the progress of a dedicated program focused on the rehabilitation and development of wastewater treatment plants. This program is specifically designed to significantly boost the capacity for utilizing treated water, directly aligning with strategic directives issued by the President of the Republic.
These presidential directives underscore the importance of promoting the treatment, recovery, and valorization of used water. The comprehensive approach seeks to provide additional water resources crucial for supporting agricultural activities and fulfilling broader development needs. Furthermore, these efforts are intended to alleviate pressure on traditional water sources, ensuring their sustainable use while simultaneously reinforcing national water and food security and fostering economic and social development.
