General Chengriha Hosts Niger Minister, Seals Pact

Algeria and Niger have officially strengthened their military cooperation through the signing of a protocol agreement in Algiers. The agreement was concluded during a working visit by General Salifou Modi, Niger's Minister of National Defense, who was hosted by General Saïd Chengriha, the Chief of Staff of the Algerian National People's Army. This significant step reflects a shared commitment to enhance security coordination and effectively address common regional challenges.
During the meeting, General Chengriha reiterated Algeria's steadfast readiness to bolster bilateral military cooperation and to carefully consider any proposals from Niger aimed at advancing military and security collaboration. He emphasized that such initiatives would serve the high interests of both nations, aligning with the strong will of their respective leaders. General Modi, in turn, expressed appreciation for the existing multidimensional coordination between the two fraternal armies. The signing ceremony and discussions were attended by senior military officials from both countries, including commanders of Algeria's Land Forces, National Gendarmerie, and Air Force.
This formalization of defense ties builds upon recent tangible support provided by Algeria to Niger. Approximately two months prior, Algeria delivered a significant gift from its Ministry of National Defense, comprising four military helicopters—specifically two MI-24V and two MI-171 models. This aid package also included essential military equipment and supplies designated for logistical support and maintenance. Such provisions underscore Algeria's ongoing efforts to expand cooperation with Niger, particularly in defense and security domains, fostering the exchange of expertise and providing various forms of bilateral support.
