Saidal Ships Medicines to Djibouti, Expands African Reach

The public pharmaceutical group Saidal recently dispatched a shipment of medicines to the Republic of Djibouti, marking the initial delivery of a substantial order. This cargo includes various therapeutic categories, such as antibiotics, pain relievers, and treatments for heart diseases and diabetes, underscoring the diverse range of pharmaceutical products manufactured by Saidal. This operation is designed to reinforce the presence of Algerian pharmaceutical products in African markets and signals growing confidence in the quality of medicines produced by Saidal units.

This export initiative aligns with Algeria's broader national strategy to diversify its exports beyond the hydrocarbon sector. It also reflects the directives from the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry, which aim to promote Algerian exports and enhance the competitiveness of national pharmaceutical products in international markets. To further facilitate these efforts, Algeria has adopted special arrangements for the registration of drugs specifically designated for export, streamlining the process for Algerian operators.

These strategic steps underscore Algeria's commitment to consolidating its position as a key player in the African pharmaceutical sector. The country's pharmaceutical exports reached approximately $52 million in 2025, reaching 33 countries, including 18 across Africa. With roughly 30% of the continent's pharmaceutical factories located within its borders, Algeria is positioned as a regional leader in medicine production and export, contributing to national economic diversification and advancing pharmaceutical sovereignty.
