State Budget Funds El Meniaa-Tamanrasset Railway Section

The Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure has announced the detailed funding plan for the extensive Laghouat-Ghardaïa-El Meniaa-In Salah-Tamanrasset railway project. In a recent statement, the Ministry specified that the project's financing would be distributed across two distinct sections, ensuring comprehensive support for its development.
Specifically, the first section, spanning 495 kilometers from Laghouat to Ghardaïa and El Meniaa, will receive funding from both the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The second and longer section, covering 1,080 kilometers from El Meniaa through In Salah to Tamanrasset, is designated to be entirely financed by the state budget.
The Ministry also confirmed that discussions are ongoing between the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) regarding the financing of other priority railway sections, indicating continued cooperation with international financial institutions in this sector. These clarifications aim to rectify previously circulated information concerning Algeria's alleged renunciation of financing from the Islamic Development Bank. The Ministry underscored the importance of relying on official statements for accurate information regarding sectoral projects.
