Speaking at an informational and awareness workshop<\/strong> in Algiers<\/strong> on Thursday, Djilali addressed representatives of national and international companies<\/strong>, stressing that investing in biodiversity should not be viewed as an additional cost<\/strong> but rather as a sustainable investment<\/strong> that enhances economic competitiveness<\/strong> in global markets increasingly demanding environmentally friendly products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We believe that companies investing in biodiversity conservation will not only safeguard their resources but also strengthen their competitiveness in both local and international markets,”<\/strong> she stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The minister urged companies to actively participate in implementing the National Biodiversity Strategy<\/strong>, recognizing that businesses have a direct and indirect impact<\/strong> on biodiversity and ecosystems. She emphasized that both the public and private sectors must engage<\/strong> in achieving the strategy\u2019s goals, as businesses depend on ecosystem services for their operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Djilali reaffirmed Algeria\u2019s commitment<\/strong> to environmental sustainability, citing the country’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for 2025-2030<\/strong>, which aligns with global biodiversity objectives<\/strong>. She stressed that this initiative aligns with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework<\/strong>, adopted by the United Nations in 2022<\/strong>, which outlines a global roadmap<\/strong> for addressing biodiversity threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Van Rijn emphasized that the primary goal of the workshop was to develop a comprehensive plan<\/strong> for biodiversity protection and enhancement<\/strong> in Algeria while ensuring alignment with international biodiversity targets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urgent Action Needed to Address Biodiversity Loss<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the discussions, experts sounded the alarm<\/strong> over the unprecedented loss of biodiversity worldwide<\/strong>, noting that over the past 50 years, ecosystem degradation and species extinction rates have surged to nearly 1,000 times the natural rate<\/strong>. This alarming trend calls for immediate and collective action<\/strong> to tackle environmental challenges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop brought together directors general, representatives of public and private companies, and officials from various ministries<\/strong>, who discussed mechanisms for corporate involvement<\/strong> in biodiversity conservation<\/strong>.
