Algiers \u2013<\/strong> The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Mr. Ibrahim Bougali, affirmed on Tuesday in Algiers that the approach adopted by Algeria<\/a> in combating terrorism has become “a model to be emulated at both regional and international levels.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech during the parliamentary session titled “Algeria’s Approach to Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime,” Mr. Bougali explained that Algeria\u2019s “comprehensive approach,” which focuses on “drying up the sources of terrorism, linking peace and security<\/a> with development, and strengthening international coordination,” enabled it to achieve a “decisive victory over terrorism without any international support.” He added that thanks to this “integrated approach” and the sacrifices of its people, Algeria has created an experience that has become a benchmark for others to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Principles of Algeria’s Anti-Terrorism Strategy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Among the principles of this comprehensive approach, Algeria paid “special attention to religious discourse, promoting a moderate and balanced narrative that fosters values of tolerance, moderation, and the fight against all forms of extremism,” according to Mr. Bougali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also highlighted “Algeria’s efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation in combating terrorism.” In this regard, he recalled the initiative launched by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as the African Union<\/a> Coordinator for Combating Terrorism and Violent Extremism, aimed at supporting international efforts, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara regions, and reinforcing joint African action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Mr. Bougali noted the adoption by the UN<\/a> Security Council<\/a> in January, at Algeria’s initiative, of a “Presidential Statement” that emphasizes “the institutional framework for combating terrorism in Africa and reflects the international community’s commitment to supporting African efforts in addressing this dangerous scourge.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing Organized Crime<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In his address, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly also discussed organized crime, which he described as “a complex network of systems extending from human trafficking, migrant smuggling, money laundering, to arms trafficking.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Bougali emphasized that this new challenge requires “a comprehensive response based on legal deterrence, cross-border security coordination, and judicial cooperation.” Algeria has responded by “strengthening its legal and security frameworks to criminalize these phenomena, which have become lifelines feeding terrorism and providing it with tools for survival.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strengthening Cybersecurity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On another note, Mr. Bougali stressed that Algeria has placed “great importance on enhancing its digital security, given the dangers posed by cyberspace as a new front for security threats.” To this end, Algeria has established a national system to protect information systems, enhancing the state’s ability to counter cyberattacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Legacy of Victory and Resilience<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on Algeria’s historical resilience, Mr. Bougali stated that “Algeria, which triumphed over colonialism in the past, continued its battle against terrorism and later against corruption and deviations that nearly undermined state institutions and public trust.” This paved the way for a “new Algeria where the state’s authority is restored.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his speech, he commemorated the 63rd anniversary of Victory Day (March 19, 1962), which crowned a long struggle and immense sacrifices made both within the country and abroad. He paid tribute to Algerian migrants who “were the voice of Algeria in international forums and its support.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tribute to the Role of the Military<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Mr. Bougali praised the “pivotal role” played by the National People’s Army (ANP), stating that “it has proven, at every critical juncture, to be the nation’s impregnable fortress and the faithful guardian of its sovereignty.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
