Algiers – On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Ibrahim Boughali, President of the Arab Parliamentary Union and Speaker of the Algerian National People\u2019s Assembly, called on Arab parliaments to exert every effort to safeguard the interests of the Arab nation amidst current regional and international challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press statement at the conclusion of the 38th Arab Parliamentary Union Conference, held under the theme “The Role of the Arab Parliamentary Union Amid Regional and International Changes,” Boughali noted, \u201cWhile Arab governments are doing their utmost to protect our countries\u2019 interests and stability, Arab parliaments are also called upon to reinforce this approach and work to safeguard the interests of the Arab nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He highlighted that the conference approved several amendments to the Union\u2019s charter to \u201cenable it to keep pace with new transformations, as part of its pursuit of development, adaptation to current challenges, and contribution to preserving Arab national security in its comprehensive sense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the conference proceedings, Boughali stated they were marked by \u201crich, constructive, and democratic discussions, whether during the Executive Committee meeting, the consultative meeting of delegation heads, or other sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference addressed \u201cways to formulate a unified Arab parliamentary stance to support the Palestinian people\u2019s struggle, counter plots targeting their cause, and resist attempts to bypass international legitimacy and marginalize the two-state solution as the only acceptable framework for resolving this conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boughali added that discussions also focused on \u201cways to enhance the Arab Parliamentary Union\u2019s work and strengthen its role and stature regionally and internationally, alongside addressing the issue of the Union\u2019s permanent headquarters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this matter, he clarified that \u201cAlgeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, just as it was committed to Syria\u2019s return to the Arab League, the Arab Parliamentary Union, chaired by Algeria, is equally committed to maintaining its permanent headquarters in Damascus.\u201d This stance, he said, reflects \u201cbelief in Syria\u2019s pivotal role and support for its recovery and return to its natural position within the Union.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted a consensus on the need to \u201cenhance the Union\u2019s effectiveness,\u201d which requires, as he stated, \u201cadopting practical initiatives and impactful positions to give it a more prominent role in addressing the urgent issues facing the Arab nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boughali expressed gratitude to the heads and delegations of Arab parliaments for renewing their confidence in him as President of the Arab Parliamentary Union for a new term, considering this \u201ca recognition of the significant diplomatic achievements and gains made by Algeria, under President Tebboune\u2019s leadership, on international, regional, and Arab levels.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
