Algiers – On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the President of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasseri, received the Canadian Ambassador to Algeria, Robyn Lynn Wettlaufer, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Council\u2019s headquarters in Algiers, according to a statement from the Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to \u201creview the historical bilateral relations between the two countries and explore ways to develop and elevate them to higher levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this regard, Nasseri called for \u201cthe need to enhance cooperation and coordination in various fields, building on the quality of bilateral relations between Algeria and Canada, established since 1964 and characterized by constructive political dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized the importance of \u201cstrengthening a mutually beneficial economic partnership and increasing trade exchanges by leveraging the opportunities provided by Algeria\u2019s investment law and its stable, incentivizing business environment.\u201d He also highlighted the need to \u201csupport the profound transformations and significant achievements resulting from the economic renaissance of the new, victorious Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nasseri also addressed aspects that enhance convergence between Algeria and Canada, including \u201cthe presence of a distinguished Algerian community in Canada, which can serve as a bridge for communication between the two peoples and an additional driver for strengthening consultation and cooperation between the two governments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On international and regional issues of mutual interest, Nasseri criticized \u201cthe serious deviations that now characterize the international system and its unfortunate imbalances, given the UN Security Council\u2019s inability to achieve the objectives of the UN Charter and the aspirations of peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this context, he stressed the necessity of \u201cmobilizing all mechanisms of international solidarity to halt the genocide in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, criminalize the Zionist occupation, and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also addressed \u201cthe tragedy faced by the Sahrawi people under the injustices of occupation and violations of international legitimacy,\u201d urging \u201cmore serious efforts to enable the Sahrawis to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination and independence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For her part, the Canadian Ambassador praised \u201cthe qualitative nature of the relations between Canada and Algeria,\u201d expressing \u201cher appreciation for the valuable shared heritage that forms a solid foundation for enhancing cooperation, peace, and stability on the international stage, particularly in light of Algeria\u2019s current membership as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She viewed the promotion of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries as \u201ca goal worth persistent effort, aligning with the capabilities and opportunities available to each country.\u201d She underscored the importance of \u201cincreasing the dynamism of bilateral cooperation across various fields to serve the interests of both peoples in a win-win framework.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the international level, the Canadian Ambassador expressed \u201cher country\u2019s deep belief in the importance of multilateralism in establishing a harmonious international order, as the optimal framework for addressing complex global challenges,\u201d emphasizing \u201cthe need to respect international law and state sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
