The film is inspired by the local proverb \u201cWealth may perish, but the craft of the hands endures,\u201d and showcases the value of craftsmanship in sustaining the local economy and combating unemployment. Actor Mohamed Berka took on the leading role alongside Jaafar Mohamed, who played the role of the grandfather, highlighting the film\u2019s focus on intergenerational transmission of skills and values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this production, Helali also sought to shed light on the richness of traditional handicrafts and their role in promoting Saharan tourism, presenting them as a heritage treasure that contributes to Algeria\u2019s cultural and economic vitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to APS, the 54-year-old filmmaker explained that his passion for art began in childhood with a fascination for visual arts and comics, where he created sketches that reflected social realities, many of which earned recognition in provincial contests. His first short film, <em>\u201cThe Return\u201d<\/em> (2021), filmed in Metlili\u2019s El-Hadhour area, won the Grand Audience Award at an international festival in Algiers. In 2023, he directed <em>\u201cMona\u201d<\/em>, a touching film addressing school bullying and its harmful impact on students, particularly young girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Helali has also directed other audiovisual works, including the short series <em>\u201cColors of the Lantern\u201d<\/em>, starring actress Manal Merabet, broadcast on several Algerian TV channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Committed to strengthening Algeria\u2019s cinema industry, Helali continues to call for greater encouragement and support for young filmmakers.
