Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, representing his country at the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly in New York, took part in the ministerial meeting of the \u201cA3+\u201d group, which includes the three African members of the UN Security Council (Algeria, Sierra Leone, and Somalia), along with Guyana representing the Caribbean region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers of Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in preparation for both countries to assume their non-permanent seats at the Security Council starting in January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This gathering reaffirmed the collective commitment to continue coordinating efforts and aligning positions within the A3+ framework as a means to strengthen African unity inside the Security Council, especially in light of growing threats to peace and security both regionally and globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministers praised Algeria\u2019s pivotal role in establishing and reinforcing this mechanism, notably through the \u201cOran High-Level Conference on Peace and Security in Africa,\u201d which has become a cornerstone of Africa\u2019s institutional presence within the UN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address, Attaf highlighted the outstanding level of coordination achieved within this group, underlining the positive momentum it generated through concrete initiatives aimed at defending Africa\u2019s interests and supporting just causes around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This achievement not only reinforces Algeria\u2019s traditional commitment to Africa and to multilateral solidarity but also exposes the stark contrast with certain regimes, particularly Morocco, which consistently undermine African unity by aligning with colonial agendas and obstructing the legitimate struggle for causes such as the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
