Berlin, Germany<\/strong> – Algeria participated in a high-level international event in Berlin on Wednesday, focusing on advancing the Algeria-Europe Hydrogen Alliance project, known as ‘ALTEH2A,’ and the SoutH2 Corridor initiative. The event underscored Algeria’s commitment to becoming a key player in the burgeoning green hydrogen market and strengthening its energy partnership with Europe.<\/p>\n

A significant Algerian delegation, representing the hydrocarbon, mining, energy, and renewable energy sectors, attended the summit. The delegation included the CEO of Sonatrach, Nordine Daoudi, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Moudjahid Miloud, along with representatives from Sonatrach and Sonelgaz.<\/p>\n

Moudjahid Miloud, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, delivered a keynote address highlighting Algeria’s unwavering dedication to developing a strategic partnership with Europe in the field of green hydrogen. He emphasized that this partnership is a cornerstone of both the national and global energy transition.<\/p>\n

The Minister’s address stressed that Algeria, a reliable energy partner for decades, possesses all the necessary assets to become a major supplier of clean energy to Europe. These assets include abundant renewable energy resources (solar and wind), modern energy infrastructure, and a network of pipelines directly connecting it to European markets.<\/p>\n

He further elaborated that developing a hydrogen-based economy is a strategic national priority, based on a three-phase approach. Currently, a semi-industrial plant with a capacity of 50 MW for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives is being developed in Arzew, with financial support from the German government and the European Union.<\/p>\n

Algeria is also working to finalize the legal and institutional framework governing hydrogen activities to encourage investment in hydrogen and renewable energy value chains, with a focus on developing human capital through the launch of specialized university programs in this field.<\/p>\n

Sonatrach CEO, Nordine Daoudi, emphasized that the event was a crucial milestone for assessing the progress of Algerian-European cooperation projects in the hydrogen sector. He noted that the ALTEH2A and SoutH2 Corridor projects represent a practical embodiment of the shared vision between Algeria and Europe for the production of green hydrogen.<\/p>\n
