Berlin, November 12, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Algeria participated in a key international event in Berlin today, showcasing the progress of the Algeria-Europe hydrogen alliance project, \u201cALTEH2A,\u201d and the SoutH2 Corridor initiative. A high-level Algerian delegation representing the hydrocarbons, mining, energy, and renewable energy sectors attended the event. The delegation included the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Moudjahid Miloud, along with representatives from Sonatrach and Sonelgaz.<\/p>\n

Moudjahid Miloud, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, delivered an opening address, emphasizing Algeria’s unwavering commitment to developing a strategic partnership with Europe in the field of green hydrogen. He highlighted this partnership as a cornerstone of both national and global energy transition efforts.<\/p>\n

The Minister’s address underscored Algeria’s position as a reliable energy partner for decades, possessing all the necessary elements to become a major source of clean energy for Europe. These elements include abundant renewable energy resources (solar and wind), modern energy infrastructure, and a network of pipelines directly connecting Algeria to European markets.<\/p>\n

He further elaborated that the development of a hydrogen-based economy is a strategic national priority, structured around three key phases. As part of this strategy, a semi-industrial plant with a capacity of 50 MW is currently under development in Arzew to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives, with financial support from the German government and the European Union.<\/p>\n

Algeria is also working to finalize the legal and institutional framework governing hydrogen activities<\/em>, aiming to encourage investment in hydrogen and renewable energy value chains. This includes a strong focus on developing human capital through the launch of specialized university programs in the field.<\/p>\n

Sonatrach CEO Noureddine Daoudi emphasized the importance of the event as a crucial milestone for evaluating the progress of Algerian-European cooperation projects in the hydrogen sector. He noted that the ALTEH2A and SoutH2 Corridor projects represent a tangible realization of the shared vision between Algeria and Europe for green hydrogen production and export.<\/p>\n
