The Algerian government is forging ahead with ambitious digital projects designed to simplify transportation for citizens. Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud, addressed the National People’s Assembly on Thursday, outlining several key initiatives aimed at modernizing the public transport sector.<\/p>\n
Minister Saayoud emphasized that this digital shift aligns with the directives of the President, with the Ministry of Transportation adopting a comprehensive digitization plan encompassing all administrative, economic, and service-oriented entities within the sector. The plan’s primary focus is to enhance the overall passenger experience.<\/p>\n
As part of this initiative, 132 land stations are being equipped with electronic payment systems, with 66 already operational nationwide. Societe de Gestion des Gares Routieres d’Algerie (SOGRAL)<\/em> has developed the MAHATATI<\/em> platform, allowing users to access real-time travel schedules, seat availability, and service information. Passengers can also use the app to report any safety concerns.<\/p>\n Furthermore, SOGRAL is installing self-service kiosks enabling ticket purchases via bank or postal cards, reducing reliance on traditional ticket counters. ETUSA<\/em>, the Algiers urban and suburban transport company, is developing the E-KHADAMATI<\/em> platform to facilitate electronic payments and reduce travel times, with a planned launch in the first half of 2026.<\/p>\n The National Railway Transport Company (SNTF) has also launched its own online booking and payment platform. Additionally, the ETWASSEL<\/em> application, managed by SETRAM, allows users to purchase tram tickets quickly and securely with integrated electronic payment options.<\/p>\n Looking ahead, Minister Saayoud highlighted the BAYA Mobile<\/em> project, a unified multi-modal ticket system. This innovative solution will enable passengers to seamlessly use various modes of transport in Algiers, including the metro, tramway, cable car, railway, and urban\/suburban transport services. The government hopes these initiatives will significantly improve efficiency and convenience for commuters across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n
