He was promoted to the rank of major general in July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bakhous is a graduate of the Military Academy of Cherchell and holds a master&#8217;s degree in international relations from the University of Algiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His appointment comes at a time when <a class=\"dzsl-auto-link dzsl-internal\" data-dzsl=\"internal\" href=\"https:\/\/dzwatch.dz\/?cat=1\">Algeria<\/a> is facing a number of challenges, including a growing trade deficit and a smuggling crisis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune appointed Abdulhafid Bakhous as the new director general of customs on Tuesday, replacing Noureddine Khalidi, whose term was terminated.
