Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called on Tuesday for a special session of the United Nations General Assembly to vote on granting full membership to Palestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a speech to the 78th session of the General Assembly, Tebboune said that Algeria renews its request to hold a special session of the General Assembly to grant Palestine full membership to the UN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that Algeria supports the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories, which is “a key factor in regional instability.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tebboune also called on the UN Security Council to issue a resolution that would protect the two-state solution and end Israeli occupation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Algerian president renewed his call for “establishing a new world order based on equality,” adding, “Reforms are also needed in the UN Security Council, which is weak in fulfilling its duty to maintain international peace and security and prevent the use of force.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also called for an end to the “historical injustice” against the rights of the African continent to representation on the Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the crisis in neighboring Niger, the Algerian president said that his country is committed to supporting the restoration of constitutional order, a peaceful political resolution, and rejects foreign military intervention, as it would pose risks to the entire region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
