Algiers, November 27, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Algeria boasts control of approximately one-third of all pharmaceutical manufacturing plants on the African continent, according to a statement from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.<\/p>\n

The President’s message, delivered by Prime Minister Sifi Gherbi to attendees of the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production, highlighted Algeria’s significant role in the continent’s pharmaceutical landscape. “Algeria is home to over a third of all pharmaceutical establishments in Africa,” the statement read. “Out of 649 factories across the continent, approximately 230 are located within Algeria, with more than 100 new projects currently underway.”<\/p>\n

President Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s capacity not only to meet its own domestic needs but also to export surplus production. He further stated Algeria’s readiness to assist fellow African nations by providing essential expertise and support in developing their own pharmaceutical industries. “We have production that covers our needs and we can export the surplus,” he said, adding that “Algeria is ready to help its African brothers and provide them with the necessary expertise.”<\/p>\n

The President’s message also noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) selected Algeria to host this landmark continental event, a first of its kind, in recognition of the country’s progress in health security since 2020 and the reforms implemented within the pharmaceutical industry. These reforms have strengthened Algeria’s position as a key player in African pharmaceutical production.<\/em><\/p>\n

This announcement underscores Algeria’s growing influence and commitment to advancing healthcare and pharmaceutical independence across the African continent.<\/p>\n
