Kyiv, Ukraine<\/strong> \u2013 A top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is under investigation for alleged corruption, raising concerns within the country’s political establishment. Authorities conducted searches at the residence of Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, on Friday.<\/p>\n

The investigation stems from alleged financial irregularities within the energy sector. Yermak also leads the Ukrainian negotiation team, a position of significant influence as Kyiv navigates complex international relations. The probe comes at a sensitive time, with some suggesting external pressures may force Ukraine into unfavorable concessions.<\/p>\n

Yermak confirmed the search via his Telegram channel, stating he is fully cooperating with investigators. He asserted that anti-corruption authorities and specialized prosecutors were conducting the searches and have been granted “full access” to his apartment. His lawyers are present and cooperating with law enforcement, he added.<\/p>\n

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) confirmed in a joint statement that the searches were authorized and conducted as part of an ongoing investigation. Earlier this month, the anti-corruption bodies announced a probe into alleged bribery schemes totaling $100 million within the state-owned nuclear energy company. While Yermak was not initially named as a suspect, opposition lawmakers and some members of Zelensky’s own party have called for his removal.<\/p>\n

This latest development could exacerbate tensions between Zelensky and his political rivals. The European Commission has noted the investigation, with a spokesperson stating the searches demonstrate that anti-corruption bodies are “doing their job.”<\/p>\n

This case represents one of the most significant corruption scandals to emerge during Zelensky’s presidency.<\/em> The unfolding situation has already led to the dismissal of two ministers, according to opposition parliamentarians.<\/p>\n
