United Nations, November 29, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has renewed his call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories, emphasizing the urgent need for \u201cirreversible\u201d progress towards a two-state solution.<\/p>\n

In a statement released today, Guterres affirmed the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people. \u201cThe Palestinian people have a right to dignity, justice, and self-determination,\u201d he stated, adding that these rights \u201chave been violated at an unprecedented rate over the past two years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOn this International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, we reaffirm a simple truth: I renew my call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian territory,\u201d Guterres declared. \u201cI also reiterate my call for irreversible progress towards a two-state solution, based on relevant United Nations resolutions, international law and prior agreements.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General has been a vocal advocate for de-escalation and lasting peace in the region. Earlier this month, on November 17th, Guterres urged all parties to work towards transforming the current ceasefire into a sustainable peace agreement and to strive for a Middle East free of all weapons of mass destruction.<\/p>\n

Guterres also highlighted the critical importance of adhering to international law and ensuring humanitarian access. \u201cThe recent ceasefire must be respected by all parties, and they must work in good faith to find solutions that uphold and restore international law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further emphasized the immediate need for humanitarian aid to reach those in need in Gaza. \u201cSufficient life-saving humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter Gaza, and the international community must continue to stand firmly with UNRWA \u2013 the indispensable lifeline for millions of Palestinians, including Palestine refugees,\u201d Guterres concluded. The UN Secretary General’s continued focus on the issue highlights the international community’s concern for the ongoing situation.<\/em><\/p>\n
