Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2013 The United States reiterated its commitment to supporting Syria and its people as the nation marks the first anniversary of the ouster of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The anniversary, celebrated as ‘Liberation Day’ by many Syrians, commemorates the end of over five decades of authoritarian rule.<\/p>\n

Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed US support in a statement, highlighting the progress made by the Syrian government and its people during the transitional period. Rubio emphasized the importance of international partnerships in fostering stability and development within Syria. “One year ago, the Syrian people began a new chapter in their history,” Rubio stated. “Today, we recognize the significant steps taken by the Syrian government and people in this transitional phase, as well as the support of international partners.”
\nHe further expressed admiration for the resilience of the Syrian people and reiterated the US commitment to a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive Syria that lives in harmony with its neighbors.<\/p>\n

Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee also issued a statement acknowledging the anniversary. Senators Jim Risch and Jeanne Shaheen jointly declared, “Today marks the first anniversary of the day the Syrian people overthrew the Assad regime, ending more than 50 years of brutal, autocratic rule.”<\/p>\n

The Senators lauded the courage and fortitude demonstrated by Syrians in the face of oppression, stating that it has paved the way for a brighter future. “The strength and resilience shown by the Syrian people in the face of Assad’s oppression have created the conditions for a better future for the Syrian people. This extraordinary achievement reminds us of the victory of freedom over tyranny and gives hope for greater peace in the Middle East.”<\/p>\n

Discussions regarding the potential lifting of Caesar Act sanctions related to Syria are reportedly underway, with a focus on fostering economic prosperity for the Syrian people.<\/em><\/p>\n

Representative Darin LaHood of Illinois, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, expressed optimism about Syria’s potential for a prosperous, independent, and sovereign future. In recent statements, he indicated the need to allow President Ahmed al-Shara time to address key issues and advance the country’s progress.<\/p>\n

Across Syria, citizens have been celebrating the end of the Assad regime, marking the anniversary of the ‘Deterrence of Aggression’ campaign that began on November 27, 2024.<\/p>\n
