Algiers<\/strong> – In a historic first for Algerian justice, the judiciary has embraced modernization and digital governance by conducting the election of the National Union of Judges’ representative to the Supreme Judicial Council electronically. This unprecedented official experiment signifies a genuine commitment to updating management mechanisms and enhancing transparency within the judicial system.<\/p>\n

The election, held on December 24, 2025, marks a pivotal moment in Algeria’s digital transformation journey. It underscores the state’s dedication to adopting modern technological solutions to ensure greater efficiency in organizing professional entitlements and reinforcing the principles of integrity and participation.<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the National Union of Judges, the election for renewing the membership of the union’s representative to the Supreme Judicial Council was conducted in accordance with Articles 14 and 30 of Organic Law No. 22-12, which defines the methods for electing members of the Supreme Judicial Council, its organizational rules, and its operation, as well as Article 122 of the National Union of Judges’ Basic Law.<\/p>\n

The electoral process was facilitated through a dedicated application activated on the Ministry of Justice’s internal network, representing the first official implementation of an electronic voting system in Algeria. A total of 170 members out of 224 from the General Assembly participated in the election of the union’s representative to the Council, choosing from three candidates across various judicial districts nationwide.<\/em> An electoral committee oversaw the smooth execution of the process at the national level.<\/p>\n

The election resulted in the victory of Fouad Kroum, a member of the Executive Office, who secured membership in the Supreme Judicial Council. The successful operation, characterized by transparency and efficiency, reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to modernize the justice system and support the digital transformation process. The move is expected to pave the way for further technological advancements within the Algerian legal framework.<\/p>\n
