DZWatch Exclusive:<\/strong> Government forces have reportedly regained control of the strategic Wadi Hadramaut region, its surrounding desert areas, and the Al-Mahra Governorate. This development comes amid a backdrop of a Saudi-led initiative for dialogue regarding the future of Southern Yemen, a move welcomed by the Southern Transitional Council (STC).<\/p>\n

According to local officials, the ‘Nation Shield’ forces, loyal to the internationally recognized government, have successfully secured all districts within Wadi Hadramaut and its adjacent desert expanse. Hadramaut Governor Salem al-Khanbashi stated that these forces are now deployed at key locations, including Sayun International Airport and other vital state and service installations.<\/p>\n

Yemeni state television further reported the deployment of ‘Nation Shield’ forces in Al-Mukalla, the capital of Hadramaut Governorate, with troops patrolling the city’s streets. Sources indicate that government forces also control Al Rayyan International Airport in Al-Mukalla.<\/p>\n

Governor al-Khanbashi lauded the support provided by local citizens and tribal leaders in maintaining security. He added that the ‘Nation Shield’ forces are now advancing towards the Hadramaut coastline to establish security, safeguard critical infrastructure, and protect public and private property.<\/p>\n

The Hadramaut National Council announced that the situation in Sayun has been resolved following clashes near Sayun International Airport between STC forces and the ‘Nation Shield’ troops. The ‘Nation Shield’ forces had called on what they termed ‘misled elements’ within the STC to withdraw from Sayun, warning of full responsibility for any consequences of non-compliance.<\/p>\n

In Al-Mahra Governorate, Mohammed Omar Suwailam, Director General of the Youth Office, confirmed that ‘Nation Shield’ forces have established control over all nine districts after the withdrawal of STC forces. He stated that a smooth handover process took place.<\/p>\n
