Gaza Strip<\/strong> \u2013 Israel is allegedly supporting new Palestinian militias within the Gaza Strip to counter Hamas, according to reports. These groups are said to be operating in areas under Israeli control, but conducting attacks in regions ostensibly outside the scope of Israeli military operations.<\/p>\n

The militias are reportedly receiving direct support, including intelligence, drone-based air support, and various supplies. This alleged support aims to circumvent restrictions placed on the Israeli army under the ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n

Hossam al-Astal, a commander of one such militia, publicly claimed responsibility for the killing of a Hamas police official in the al-Mawasi area. Al-Astal allegedly stated that the official was \u201ccausing problems for people who wanted to come to us\u201d and threatened further targeting of Hamas members. \u201cAnyone who tries to reach us will be shot, and whoever replaces him will be killed,\u201d he reportedly said.<\/p>\n

In a video message, al-Astal, brandishing an assault rifle, warned Hamas: \u201cJust as we reached them, we will reach you too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamas has condemned al-Astal’s group as \u201ctools of the Israeli occupation\u201d and threatened severe punishment for those collaborating with Israel, stating that \u201cthe price of betrayal is high and costly.\u201d<\/p>\n

While al-Astal has denied receiving assistance from Israel beyond food, reports citing Israeli officials and soldiers suggest close coordination and Israeli intervention to protect him and his group when necessary.<\/p>\n

Yaron Buskila, who served as a senior operations officer in the Gaza Division of the Israeli army until the ceasefire came into effect, stated, \u201cWhen they go and carry out activities against Hamas, we are there to monitor them and sometimes to help them. This means helping them with information.\u201d<\/p>\n
