Ottawa, Canada<\/strong> – Prime Minister Mark Carney has called on Canadians to bolster their national economy by prioritizing the purchase of Canadian-made goods. The appeal comes in response to recent threats from the United States regarding potential tariffs.<\/p>\n

In a video address released on Saturday, Prime Minister Carney emphasized the importance of focusing on domestic economic strengths in the face of external pressures. “Faced with external threats to our economy, Canadians have decided to focus on what they can control,” he stated. He highlighted a new government initiative designed to promote and encourage the consumption of Canadian products.<\/p>\n

While deliberately avoiding direct mention of the United States, Prime Minister Carney alluded to the source of the economic concerns. “We cannot control what other countries do, but we can be our own best customer. We will buy Canadian. We will build a strong Canada together.”<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister’s message follows closely on the heels of threats from the US administration to impose significant tariffs on Canadian imports if Canada proceeds with establishing trade agreements with China.<\/p>\n

The US stance was made clear in a recent statement, warning that tariffs of up to 100% could be levied on goods imported from Canada if it becomes a conduit for Chinese products entering the United States. “If Prime Minister Carney believes that Canada will become a transit port for China to send goods and products to the United States, he is very wrong about that,”<\/em> the statement read.<\/p>\n

These developments occur after Prime Minister Carney’s recent visit to China, where he engaged in discussions with President Xi Jinping. During the visit, Prime Minister Carney indicated a potential move towards a new strategic partnership between Canada and China. The Canadian government has not yet issued a further statement.<\/p>\n
