The President of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, received the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Algeria, Marek Morin, on Monday to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation.<\/p>\n
According to a statement from the Assembly, Boughali noted during the meeting that relations between Algeria and Slovakia are “historical, based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation,” pointing to “the existence of great political will among the leadership of both countries to push these relations to broader horizons.”<\/p>\n
In this context, Boughali explained that parliamentary exchange between the two countries “remains below the desired level at the current stage,” attributing this to the absence of a friendship group at the level of the Slovak National Council. He expressed his hope to “rectify this deficiency, allowing for a new impetus for bilateral parliamentary cooperation.”<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the People’s National Assembly has established more than seventy parliamentary friendship groups with other parliaments worldwide as part of activating the role of parliamentary diplomacy, the statement added.<\/p>\n
On the economic front, Boughali indicated that “Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, seeks to diversify its economy away from dependence on hydrocarbons,” considering that the Slovak economy possesses significant capabilities and advantages that “could form a basis for a fruitful economic partnership between the two countries.”<\/p>\n
He also praised Slovakia’s positions regarding the Sahrawi and Palestinian issues, commending its support for international legitimacy and the right of peoples to self-determination.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Slovak Ambassador noted “his country’s desire to deepen parliamentary and economic cooperation between the two countries,” confirming the existence of broad areas for bilateral cooperation. He also expressed Slovakia’s interest in benefiting from Algeria’s “distinguished experience” during its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, praising the role it plays in promoting peace and security at the regional and international levels.<\/p>\n
