Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, chaired a public session on Monday dedicated to presenting and discussing the draft law amending and supplementing Ordinance No. 21-01, which concerns the organic law related to the electoral system.<\/p>\n
The session was attended by Said Sayoud, Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport, representing the government, and Najiba Jilali, Minister of Relations with Parliament.<\/p>\n
Representing the government, Said Sayoud provided a detailed presentation to the members of the People’s National Assembly. He explained the background of the draft text, its objectives, and its alignment with constitutional provisions, particularly regarding the guarantee of citizens’ rights to free choice and the principles of integrity and transparency throughout the electoral process.<\/p>\n
The government representative also highlighted the project’s redistribution of powers, separating logistical tasks assigned to the Ministry of Interior from the core responsibilities of organizing and supervising elections, which remain under the jurisdiction of the Independent Authority.<\/p>\n
According to Sayoud, the draft includes restructuring the National Independent Authority for Elections to improve performance by reducing its membership, strengthening collective decision-making, and regulating the legal status of its members while requiring electoral expertise. The project also includes 14 technical articles addressing current requirements.<\/p>\n
Sayoud concluded by clarifying amendments to candidacy provisions, including facilitating conditions such as “reducing the number of signatures” and refining organization, such as “granting freedom in list ordering and increasing the number of candidates,” alongside new conditions to enhance credibility and integrity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
