The Sonelgaz Group has connected approximately 103,000 agricultural holdings to the national electricity grid since the start of the operation, according to Nabil Kafi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies.<\/p>\n
Kafi explained that the group’s efforts in recent years have achieved an electricity coverage rate of nearly 99% across the national territory. This includes connecting several major strategic projects, particularly in the mining, agriculture, and seawater desalination sectors.<\/p>\n
He added that the sector continues to implement programs aimed at ensuring full energy coverage, including in isolated and remote areas.<\/p>\n
The official noted that the energy sector relies on a strategy based on enhancing regulation and efficiency, developing human resources, modernization through digitization, and supporting the energy transition by expanding the use of clean energy and reducing emissions.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he highlighted that the establishment of “Sonelgaz-International” is part of an effort to expand the presence of national institutions in foreign markets. He explained that this company will allow for the export of Algerian energy expertise and strengthen Algeria’s position as a reliable regional player.<\/p>\n
The company’s first project involves the construction of a 40-megawatt power plant in the Nigerien capital, Niamey. He also mentioned ongoing projects and contacts with several African countries, including Mozambique, in the fields of production, distribution, and the export of electrical equipment.<\/p>\n
Regarding the renewable energy program, the official reported that 3,200 megawatts of photovoltaic energy will enter service during the current year as part of the national program aiming to produce 15,000 megawatts by 2035.
