Algeria has renewed its firm stance on the criteria necessary to ensure a just and lasting resolution to the Western Sahara conflict, reaffirming its consistent position grounded in international legitimacy.<\/p>\n
During the annual regional seminar of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24), held in Managua, Nicaragua from May 25\u201327, Algeria’s delegation \u2014 led by Ambassador Tewfik Koudri \u2014 dismantled what it described as Morocco’s baseless claims and misleading narratives surrounding the Sahrawi file.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Koudri told dzwatch that Western Sahara remains the last territory in Africa among the 17 listed on the C-24 agenda, stressing that all relevant UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions affirm the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that no fait accompli or deal-based arrangement can bypass UN legitimacy, and that the United Nations remains the sole authority empowered to determine the final status of Western Sahara.<\/p>\n
Algeria welcomed the resumption of direct negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front under UN and US auspices, participating as a neighboring observer alongside Mauritania. Koudri stressed that this development rendered Morocco’s unilateral recognition claims meaningless.<\/p>\n
