African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy Chairperson Salma Malika Haddadi in Brazzaville during Africa Day \u2014 held on the sidelines of the African Development Bank annual meetings \u2014 stressed that Africa has built robust financing and development instruments through its institutions, describing the AfDB as “one of Africa’s most significant institutional achievements.”<\/p>\n
AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah told dzwatch that Africa possesses enormous assets and strategic resources to elevate its global economic standing, urging stronger solidarity to tackle climate, food security, water, and energy challenges. He emphasized that building a “new African financial architecture” is essential for genuine economic independence.<\/p>\n
AU Chairperson and Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye called for accelerating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), while Congo’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso announced visa-free entry for all African nationals starting January 1, 2027.<\/p>\n
