Organized by the French Peasant Confederation and the Catalan Assembly for Sahrawi Freedom, the solidarity day on Saturday saw representatives from various French political, trade union, and associative bodies march through Perpignan's streets. They collectively affirmed their unwavering support for the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence, while denouncing the continued Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and the associated violations of Sahrawi rights.<\/p>\n
Prominent French political parties and organizations, including the New Anticapitalist Party, the Association for Solidarity with Migrant Workers, the French Communist Party, and the French League for Human Rights, joined numerous Sahrawi sympathizers in expressing their full backing for the justice of the Sahrawi cause. They highlighted that the exploitation of occupied Western Sahara's natural resources by foreign companies, without the explicit consent of the Sahrawi people, constitutes a 'clear violation' of international law and judgments from the European Union Court of Justice.<\/p>\n
The groups urgently called upon French and European authorities to uphold international and European legitimacy, demanding an immediate halt to all economic activities targeting the region's resources without the approval of its legitimate representative, the Polisario Front.<\/p>\n
During the event, Mohamed Ali Zerouali, the Polisario Front's representative in France, lauded the profound level of mobilization and solidarity demonstrated by the participating organizations. He underscored that Western Sahara remains a non-self-governing territory listed by the United Nations as an area yet to complete its decolonization process. Zerouali reaffirmed the Sahrawi people's steadfast commitment to their right to self-determination and independence, while condemning the ongoing exploitation of the occupied territory's natural resources in the absence of the Sahrawi people's consent.<\/p>\n
