State Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, recently participated in Seoul in the Africa-Republic of Korea Partnership Ministerial Meeting. He reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with South Korea, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their agreement.

Algerian diplomacy active international cooperation

Attaf highlighted that Algeria views its bilateral relationship with South Korea as a catalyst for broader Africa-Korea cooperation. He pointed to projects with continental scope, such as the establishment of the African Center for Information and Communication Technology and Advanced Technologies, as examples of this synergy. Algeria is keen to contribute to the diversification and expansion of the Africa-Korea partnership. Evaluating the partnership since the 2024 summit, Attaf expressed satisfaction and ambition, noting tangible progress and a shared desire to enhance future prospects for mutual benefit. He emphasized three key aspects: the alignment of Africa-Korea partnership goals with the African Union's Agenda 2063, South Korea's support for African-led cooperation initiatives, and the partnership's pragmatic approach demonstrated through projects in vital areas like trade, infrastructure, agriculture, industry, and technology. Furthermore, Algeria aspires for this partnership to help Africa integrate into global technological revolutions, including AI, digital transformation, robotics, nanotechnologies, and renewable energy, stressing the importance of avoiding Africa's marginalization as seen in past industrial and information revolutions.

In line with presidential directives, Algeria has been actively engaged in championing just causes in Africa and the Arab world, alongside contributing to resolving global conflicts. The nation's persuasive diplomacy and consultative approach have facilitated numerous urgent meetings on critical issues, including the situations in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, and Colombia. These initiatives aim to foster dialogue and identify pathways towards a better world.

Algeria's efforts concerning Palestine have been particularly impactful, leading to several emergency meetings focused on consolidating the Gaza ceasefire, addressing challenges faced by UNRWA, and the plight of children in the region. These interventions have provided relief and hope to affected populations. In Libya, Algerian diplomacy secured a significant agreement enabling the Libyan Investment Authority to reinvest frozen assets and mandating the Sanctions Committee to inform Libyan authorities about any correspondence concerning these assets. For Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Lebanon, Algeria successfully urged the UN Security Council to support political processes initiated by their respective populations, advocating for new eras free from foreign interference.

Beyond conflict resolution, Algeria has convened pivotal meetings on key challenges facing Africa and the Arab world, such as counter-terrorism, strengthening UN-Arab League cooperation, and reforming the international system. The UN Security Council meeting on counter-terrorism in Africa, chaired by Minister Attaf, was highly anticipated due to Algeria's expertise. It allowed participating delegations to understand Algeria's comprehensive approach, addressing both the manifestations and root causes of terrorism, alongside development and security aspects. African ministers unanimously lauded Algeria's strategy and President Tebboune's role in unifying continental efforts.

The meeting on enhancing Arab League-UN cooperation, also led by Attaf, underscored the urgency of bolstering joint diplomatic action for regional peace, security, and prosperity. It highlighted the negative repercussions of excluding this cooperation from regional peace equations and emphasized the symbiotic relationship necessary for multilateralism.

Algeria has also been a staunch advocate for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence. Despite attempts by the Moroccan regime to undermine this cause, Algeria has consistently reaffirmed its unwavering support. Through its diplomatic influence, particularly during its tenure on the UN Security Council, Algeria has worked to keep the Sahrawi issue prominent. Crucially, it facilitated amendments to UN Security Council Resolution 2797 concerning MINURSO, reinforcing the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and ensuring a more balanced text that upholds international law and previous resolutions. Minister Attaf clarified that the adopted resolution does not validate Moroccan claims, emphasizing that the issue remains under UN purview. Algeria's firm stance and principled diplomacy during its Security Council term have demonstrated its commitment to defending just causes, notably the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues, on the international stage.

Related topics: Algeria diplomacy, Ahmed Attaf, Africa-Korea partnership, Palestine cause, Western Sahara, UN Security Council

DZWatch provides English-language coverage of Algeria-focused developments for international readers.

Algeria’s vibrant diplomacy, driven by President Tebboune, strengthens global partnerships and advocates for just causes, notably in Africa and the…

[48

post-62477","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-palestine
["GET
