DZWatch can confirm that a major natural gas connection project, set to benefit close to 900 households across three municipalities within the Tablat district, northeast of M\u00e9d\u00e9a, is poised for imminent launch. This initiative, which includes the communes of Mezghena, El-Aissaouia, and Tablat, represents a significant step forward in enhancing energy access for the region.<\/p>\n
The project, financed under the local authorities' Guarantee and Solidarity Fund (CGSCL) for the 2026 fiscal year, aims to substantially increase natural gas coverage rates in these areas. Tayeb Zaidi, the Director of Energy, highlighted that Mezghena commune alone is slated to see 461 households connected. This builds on a previous phase in May, which brought natural gas to 171 homes in the same commune.<\/p>\n
Upon completion of this new phase, urban natural gas coverage in Mezghena commune is projected to reach an impressive 100%. In Tablat commune, 122 homes in the secondary urban centers of Taguerbouste and Naamine are included, which will elevate the commune's overall coverage to approximately 65%. Further operations are anticipated to push this figure even higher. Notably, 355 homes in Zmala and Beni-Belkacem within Tablat had already been connected recently.<\/p>\n
The initiative also extends to El-Aissaouia commune, where 310 households in the secondary urban areas of Chemalil and Bekkara are targeted. This follows the connection of over 120 homes to the natural gas distribution network in early May. According to Director Zaidi, these new connections are expected to boost El-Aissaouia's natural gas coverage from 70% to 90%, marking a significant improvement in energy accessibility for its residents.<\/p>\n
