Algeria's commitment to digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) development was showcased at the 114th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva. Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Hadj Hamou Boualem, presented Algeria's strategic initiatives aimed at leveraging AI to foster sustainable development, build a knowledge-based economy, modernize public services, and enhance socio-economic inclusion.<\/p>\n
Addressing global delegates from governments, employers, and workers, Boualem emphasized that these efforts are guided by the vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He highlighted the declaration of 2023 as the national year of AI, the establishment of the National Scientific Council for AI, and the creation of the National Higher School for AI as key steps in this transformative path.<\/p>\n
The Minister underscored that Algeria views AI as a pivotal pillar for sustainable development, accelerating economic progress, and improving social welfare. This initiative is part of a broader reform agenda designed to promote decent work, strengthen social protection, and enhance working conditions through a robust legal and constitutional framework that safeguards workers' rights and supports social dialogue.<\/p>\n
Algeria reiterated its dedication to collaborating with international partners to establish fair and balanced global governance for AI. This cooperation aims to ensure that all nations benefit from technological advancements and contribute to global development and social peace. The nation also stressed its commitment to the ethical and responsible use of AI, aligning with international principles to protect fundamental rights, human dignity, and digital security while upholding social dialogue and workers' rights.<\/p>\n
In his address, the Minister conveyed President Tebboune's greetings and best wishes for the conference's success. He acknowledged the Director-General of the International Labour Organization's report, "The First, the Few, the Many: AI in the transition to decent work," recognizing the profound impact of technological shifts, particularly AI, on the future of work.<\/p>\n
Concluding his remarks, Boualem reaffirmed Algeria's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, stating that social justice and decent work cannot be fully realized amidst the ongoing violations against the Palestinian people. He called upon the international community to provide protection and support to Palestinian workers and ensure their right to a dignified life.<\/p>\n
