Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday that the agreement between Washington and Tehran includes urgent measures such as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the maritime blockade on Iranian ports. He confirmed via the platform "X" that the MoU's provisions would be enacted immediately.<\/p>\n
Sharif elaborated that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz without delay, while the United States would move to lift restrictions on maritime traffic linked to Iran. He indicated that a formal ceremony would be held in Switzerland on Friday to launch a new phase of technical talks concerning the agreement's implementation mechanisms.<\/p>\n
In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced early Thursday the signing of an MoU with Iran. Axios reported, citing senior U.S. officials, that the agreement was electronically signed by both sides on Wednesday and took effect immediately after the completion of signing procedures.<\/p>\n
According to Axios, Trump personally signed a copy of the agreement during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles, before sending a signed copy to the Iranian side and the mediators involved in the negotiations.<\/p>\n
In a connected context, the Associated Press, quoting U.S. officials, revealed that the draft agreement includes a new provision for reducing the enrichment level of Iranian uranium to a minimum, alongside specific clauses ensuring the security of Lebanese territory following recent Israeli attacks.<\/p>\n
The draft also stipulates that the United States will suspend a portion of the extensive sanctions imposed on Iran immediately upon signing the agreement, without fully lifting them, thus allowing a timeframe to test both parties' adherence to the understanding's terms.<\/p>\n
Officials added that the agreement permits free passage through the Strait of Hormuz without tolls for sixty days only, with the possibility of imposing new fees or arrangements in the future depending on subsequent negotiations.<\/p>\n
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagha'ei, in statements reported by Iranian state media and Reuters, confirmed that the presidents of the United States and Iran had officially signed the MoU. He noted that negotiation teams are still preparing for meetings in Geneva to follow up on the technical and implementation aspects of the agreement.<\/p>\n
Bagha'ei indicated that negotiations on the MoU's implementation mechanism would begin immediately, clarifying that oil sanctions on Iran must be lifted to allow Tehran to resume its oil sales starting today for a period of sixty days, according to initial understandings.<\/p>\n

Regarding the nuclear file, Bagha'ei explained that Iranian nuclear materials would not be transferred out of the country and that the proposed option involves reducing the uranium enrichment level according to agreed-upon mechanisms. He affirmed at the same time that the United States committed to removing obstacles preventing Tehran from accessing its frozen assets abroad.<\/p>\n
