The ministry's announcement, released on Thursday, stipulates the threshold at 2,295,000 Algerian Dinars (DZD). The ministry's statement, coinciding with the advent of the Hijri year 1448, confirmed that the specified Zakat amount is equivalent to twenty gold dinars, which corresponds to a weight of eighty-five grams of gold. This benchmark is crucial for determining wealth subject to Zakat.<\/p>\n
The calculation of this threshold is based on the current market value of gold. Algeria's National Agency for the Transformation and Distribution of Gold and Other Precious Metals (AGENOR) fixed the price of an 18-carat gold gram at 27,000 DZD at the beginning of the current Hijri year. Consequently, the Zakat threshold is derived from multiplying 85 grams by 27,000 DZD, yielding the total of 2,295,000 DZD. Muslims are required to contribute 2.5% (a quarter of a tenth) of any wealth that meets this threshold and has been possessed for a full Hijri year, whether in cash, commercial goods, or other assets valued at their market price on the Zakat due date.<\/p>\n
To facilitate the collection and proper distribution of Zakat, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has made provincial postal accounts, managed by the National Office of Endowments and Zakat, available to contributors.
