Tizi Ouzou, Algeria \u2013 In a significant move to empower rural women and foster economic development, the Tizi Ouzou Forest Conservation department has launched an initiative distributing 1,110 beehives to 222 rural women across the province's 67 communes.<\/p>\n
The program commenced in Ait Moussa, south of Tizi Ouzou city, under the patronage of the Wali, Aboubakr-Essedik Boucetta. The initial distribution saw 18 women from the communes of Tizi Ghenif, Draa El Mizan, Ait Yahia Moussa, Ain Zaouia, M\u2019kira, and Frikat receive their share, with each of the three selected women per commune being granted five beehives.<\/p>\n
The Conservator of Forests for the Tizi Ouzou province highlighted that this program, part of a local development strategy, specifically targets rural women. The objective is to encourage their entrepreneurial activities, enhance their income-generating potential, and thereby stimulate the growth of the beekeeping sector within the region.<\/p>\n
Addressing potential logistical challenges, the Conservator assured beneficiaries who lack land for apiaries that spaces within the state's forest domain would be made available for installing their beehives. This initiative underscores a commitment to supporting grassroots economic activities and diversifying rural livelihoods.<\/p>\n
