The operation, led by the Regional Brigade for Combating Economic and Financial Crimes, resulted in the seizure of millions of illicit goods and multiple arrests.<\/p>\n
The intricate investigation, initiated last week based on intelligence regarding an organized criminal network operating across the nation's eastern border, swiftly escalated. Intensive field research allowed authorities to identify the network members and pinpoint the location of a large cache of smuggled goods within Khenchela province.<\/p>\n
In a coordinated effort with local judicial authorities, two suspects were initially apprehended. The subsequent raid uncovered a substantial quantity of highly sensitive contraband, including over 2.555 million units of fireworks and firecrackers, alongside more than 482,000 units of tobacco products and related accessories, many of which were counterfeit and of foreign origin. The estimated total market value of these seized items exceeds 154 million Algerian Dinars.<\/p>\n
Further deep dives into the investigation led to the identification and arrest of three additional individuals implicated in the criminal activities. Authorities also confiscated two vehicles that were actively used for transporting these illegal materials. Ongoing inquiries have revealed that these illicit trade operations inflicted an estimated financial loss of nearly 180 million Algerian Dinars upon the public treasury.<\/p>\n
Following the conclusion of the investigation, legal proceedings have been initiated against all involved parties. The suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Khenchela court to face charges.<\/p>\n
