Algeria has strengthened its position for the third consecutive year among upper-middle-income countries, according to the latest classification issued by the World Bank Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This classification reflects the progress achieved by Algeria in recent years in terms of economic growth, public investment and the improvement of public finance governance. It also highlights the country\u2019s continued efforts to consolidate its economic indicators and support productive sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The World Bank\u2019s latest classification is based on the analysis of gross national income per capita for 218 economies during 2025. Under this ranking, Algeria is one of eight African countries classified in the upper-middle-income category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Algeria\u2019s gross national income per capita reached 5,850 dollars last year, compared with 5,370 dollars in 2024. Along with Libya, Algeria is one of the only two North African countries included in this income group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Algeria had moved in the 2024 classification from the lower-middle-income category to the upper-middle-income category. At the time, the Ministry of Finance explained that this shift reflected several factors, including the reassessment of gross domestic product, which led to an increase in its value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry also linked this improvement to the results achieved in recent years in economic growth, the expansion of public investment, the strengthening of productive economic sectors and the consolidation of good governance principles in the management of public finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the World Bank\u2019s current income classification, low-income economies are those with a gross national income per capita of 1,175 dollars or less. Lower-middle-income economies range from 1,176 to 4,635 dollars, while upper-middle-income economies range from 4,636 to 14,375 dollars. Economies above this level are classified as high-income countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
