Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is closely monitoring the nationwide efforts to combat the wildfires and assist affected residents, Interior Minister Said Sayoud said during his visit to the province of Annaba on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister, who traveled to Annaba on the President\u2019s instructions, inspected the ongoing firefighting operations in the municipality of Sera\u00efdi, where forest fires spread toward nearby urban areas following exceptionally high temperatures. He was accompanied by a ministerial delegation and the Director General of Civil Protection to assess the situation on the ground and oversee relief operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the press, Sayoud stressed that President Tebboune is receiving real-time updates on the efforts undertaken by all emergency services to extinguish the fires and provide assistance to affected citizens. He praised the vigilance of local civil and military authorities, whose rapid intervention helped prevent what he described as a potential catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister noted that more than 100 patients were evacuated as a precaution from the public hospital in Sera\u00efdi to Abderrahmane Khan Hospital in Annaba after the flames approached the medical facility. He confirmed that the patients were receiving the necessary medical and psychological care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sayoud also explained that the intense heatwave had triggered numerous wildfires across almost all northern provinces of Algeria, prompting the authorities to maintain a high level of preparedness and mobilize all available resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government has reaffirmed that protecting lives remains its highest priority. Emergency teams continue to battle the fires while supporting displaced residents and assessing damage in the affected areas.
