Algeria and Libya have agreed to begin drafting a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across key areas of the water sector, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Algeria\u2019s Ministry of Water Resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement emerged from a technical meeting between officials from the two ministries during the official visit of Libyan Minister of Water Resources Mohamed Hosni Oweidan to Algeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting, chaired by Omar Bouguerra, Secretary-General of Algeria\u2019s Ministry of Water Resources, was attended by representatives of public institutions and agencies operating in the sector. The Libyan delegation was led by Mokhtar El Fitouri Radi Salam, Director of the International Cooperation Office at Libya\u2019s Ministry of Water Resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the session, Algerian officials presented a comprehensive overview of the country’s experience in managing water resources. The presentation highlighted major achievements, completed infrastructure projects, planning mechanisms, and strategic programmes designed to strengthen water security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Particular attention was given to Algeria\u2019s advances in seawater desalination, the expansion of drinking water services, wastewater treatment, and agricultural irrigation, reflecting the country\u2019s efforts to ensure the sustainable use of water resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry, the proposed memorandum will establish a framework for bilateral cooperation covering six priority areas, including seawater desalination, agricultural irrigation, integrated water-resource management, training and capacity building, the exchange of expertise, and enhanced technical and institutional cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Libyan delegation praised the level of existing cooperation between the two countries and commended Algeria\u2019s achievements, particularly in desalination and the reuse of treated wastewater for agricultural and industrial purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Libyan officials also expressed their country’s interest in benefiting from Algeria\u2019s experience and expanding the exchange of expertise and best practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and deepening cooperation to address regional water-security challenges and promote sustainable development, in line with the shared political vision of the two countries\u2019 leadership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
