This expansion follows orientations issued by the Bank of Algeria on August 10, which aim to stimulate household financing and increase the rate of financial inclusion across the nation. Consumer credit is now extending beyond traditional household equipment to encompass essential daily services such as medical care, schooling, and tourism, marking a pivotal development in the banking sector.

Several institutions are contributing to this drive. The Banque Extérieure d'Algérie (BEA) is addressing rising material and construction costs by offering a product specifically for property development and renovation, featuring a competitive interest rate of 6.25%. BEA is also strengthening its Islamic finance portfolio with options like Mourabaha immobilière. Concurrently, the Banque Nationale d'Algérie (BNA) is focusing on Sharia-compliant real estate financing, providing up to 90% coverage for property acquisitions through credit-bail immobilier and Mourabaha immobilière, with a guaranteed processing time of under thirty days. Additionally, the Crédit Populaire d'Algérie (CPA) has re-entered the consumer credit market with its "C'PLUS CONSO" product, financing the purchase of locally produced or assembled household appliances and equipment, covering 90% of the product price for eligible beneficiaries.

For CPA's "C'PLUS CONSO," loan amounts range from 100,000 to 700,000 dinars, with monthly repayments capped at 30% of the borrower's net monthly income over a period of 6 to 36 months for individuals up to 70 years of age. A payment deferral of up to three months is also available. All agreements are contingent on subscribing to insolvency, death, and disability insurance, and require documentation proving the financed equipment is manufactured or assembled in Algeria, in line with national production promotion efforts. Beyond household needs, the Banque de l'Agriculture et du Développement Rural (BADR) is expanding its Islamic offerings to include Mourabaha for agricultural production, designed to support farmers' cash flow and facilitate equipment modernization.

This proactive responsiveness from Algerian banks reflects increasing competition within the individual banking market and a strategic shift in the national banking landscape. The relaxed legal framework now permits the inclusion of daily services, aligning with monetary authorities' objective to enhance financial inclusion by enabling banks to support households' broader life projects.

Algerian banks have initiated a broad commercial drive to expand consumer credit, aiming to stimulate household financing and enhance financial inclusion.
