An executive decree has declared the public utility for a new potable water supply system designed to benefit municipalities in the provinces of Algiers and Blida. Published in the latest Official Gazette (No. 58), Executive Decree No. 26-274, dated 17 Safar 1448 (corresponding to 2026), clarifies that this project originates from the Fouka seawater desalination station and involves an amendment to the path specified in a previous decree, No. 24-101, issued on March 7, 2024.<\/p>\n
The first article of the new decree modifies the route initially defined in Executive Decree No. 24-101, which had already established the public utility for constructing the drinking water supply system for Algiers and Blida municipalities from the Fouka desalination plant. The second article specifies that the real estate properties, both private and those belonging to the national real estate domain, designated for this operation cover an area of 42 hectares, 70 ares, and 19 centiares. This land is distributed across various municipalities within the Algiers and Blida provinces, in accordance with approved technical studies.<\/p>\n
This adjustment is part of a broader effort to complete the system for transporting and distributing desalinated water to the capital and its surrounding areas via the Fouka station. Fouka is recognized as one of the major desalination plants operating along the central coastal strip.
