This significant national observance highlights the ingenuity of the glorious liberation revolution's leaders in solidifying internal unity and reinforcing the external dimension of the Algerian cause. The event stands as an enduring testament to the strategic vision that guided the nation's fight for independence.

The commemoration serves as an occasion to recall the immense struggles, profound sacrifices, and arduous suffering patiently and courageously endured by the Algerian people. It also represents a moment to renew the commitment to the martyrs and freedom fighters, and to the eternal message of November, fostering an Algeria built by the will of sincere patriots dedicated to safeguarding its trust. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune previously emphasized the imperative to preserve national memory, honoring the sacrifices of resisters, militants, and martyrs, and appreciating their profound, eternal loyalty to the Proclamation of November 1st and the message of the martyrs. This spirit, he noted, imbues the new Algeria, committed to its independent decision-making, sovereignty, and genuine sustainable development to become a rising and promising nation.

The Northern Constantine Attacks, initiated in the summer of 1955, were a pivotal moment in the armed struggle. Led by hero Zighoud Youcef, commander of the second region (Northern Constantine), and his deputy Lakhdar Ben Tobbal, alongside other liberation heroes, these attacks targeted colonial objectives in the region. Thousands of farmers joined National Liberation Army soldiers in assaulting police stations, gendarmerie barracks, public buildings, and settler installations. The attacks aimed to break the siege imposed by the colonial army on Aures and other regions since the revolution's outbreak, demonstrating the revolution's organizational capacity and high coordination. This crucial event also introduced the Algerian people's cause to the international community, leading to its inclusion on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly in September 1955, thereby recognizing it as a national liberation struggle rather than an internal conflict.

Following the attacks, the revolution experienced a renewed momentum, which was subsequently structured and reorganized during the Soummam Congress in 1956. This historic congress resulted in significant decisions, including the replacement of the five operational zones, established since November 1st, 1954, with six wilayas, further divided into zones, regions, and sectors. Critically, the congress unified the National Liberation Army nationally in its structure and ranks, granting it the status of a regular army and providing comprehensive military and political structuring for the liberation revolution.

Algeria observes the National Day of the Moudjahid on August 20th, commemorating the Northern Constantine Attacks of 1955 and the Soummam Congress of 1956.
