The primary objective is to create high added value and penetrate new regional and international markets. This strategic direction follows a meeting involving Algeria's Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rezig, the Ambassador of Oman to Algeria, and the CEO of the Algerian-Omani Company, where discussions centered on developing trade cooperation and broadening partnership areas for economic operators in both nations, leveraging existing political and diplomatic ties.

Economic expert Professor Fares Habbash highlighted that this period offers significant prospects to elevate Algerian-Omani relations beyond traditional goods trade. The focus is shifting towards direct investment, joint production, and establishing extended companies aimed at regional export, creating a deeper and more sustainable economic model. Both economies possess unique technical and structural specificities conducive to broad economic integration. Algeria offers vast economic potential, including energy and mining resources, agricultural capabilities, a developing industrial base, a large domestic market of over 45 million consumers, and a strategic geographical position linking it to Africa and the Mediterranean. Oman contributes advanced global expertise in modern port management, logistics, manufacturing, free zones, robust investment funds, and a forward-looking approach to external investments.

This integration of raw materials, logistical and investment expertise, and strategic geographic locations creates a robust foundation for joint projects. These initiatives are designed to distribute roles based on competitive advantages, with production systems targeting broader regional and international markets. Priority sectors for joint ventures include energy and renewable energies, fertilizers, mining, food and manufacturing industries, strategic agriculture, pharmaceuticals, logistics services, and port management. Existing successful collaborations, such as the “Asmidal-SPC” fertilizer production partnership, serve as a practical model for expanding into other promising productive sectors. Professor Habbash emphasized that strengthening this partnership necessitates broader involvement from the private sector, businessmen, and small and medium-sized enterprises in both countries, recognizing their flexibility and capacity for innovation.

A strategic opportunity for Algerian-Omani cooperation lies in accessing “third markets,” extending their reach beyond their immediate geographies. Algeria’s position and economic indicators enable it to act as a production platform and logistical base for Omani entities aiming to enter promising African markets, particularly given the rapid activation of the African Continental Free Trade Area and Algeria’s role in continental transport networks like the “Algeria-Lagos” road. Conversely, Oman’s strategic location on the Indian Ocean and Gulf seas, coupled with its global expertise in shipping and investment zones, can facilitate Algerian products’ access to markets in the GCC, Southeast Asia, and Indian Ocean countries. This dual logistical capability allows for a new industrial and commercial model where value-added products are manufactured or processed jointly and then directed to these third regional markets, thereby increasing exports and enhancing the international presence of national enterprises.

Algeria and Oman are advancing towards a new, more dynamic economic phase, aiming to expand bilateral investments, develop trade, and establish integrated production partnerships.
