The national hydrocarbons company, Sonatrach, signed two important contracts on August 12 to advance fertilizer production and port infrastructure in the eastern part of the country. This strategic push positions Algeria to become a key global supplier in the phosphate market.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian energy infrastructure firm, Saipem, is slated to produce 3.2 million tonnes of concentrated phosphate annually at the Bled El Hadba site in T\u00e9bessa. Additionally, Saipem plans to produce 2.4 million tonnes of phosphated fertilizers and 570,000 tonnes of urea per year at the future Oued El Keberit site in Souk Ahras. The company has received authorization to commence work valued at approximately 500 million euros. For export capabilities, the Chinese port engineering company CHEC secured the contract to upgrade the port of Annaba.<\/p>\n<p>This comprehensive development project aims for Algeria to compete with regional rivals in the global phosphate market. The country also seeks to attract markets in the United States, further solidifying its international economic presence.
